This how to is specifically for Adobe programs, but will work similarly in Corel, Jasc, and most if not all others.

1. Open your photo file in the program you are going to use to resize it, and go to File>Save as, and save a copy of your photo. Always, always do this first to avoid having to download your picture repeatedly or even worse, messing up the only copy you have of it and having no way to fix or replace it. Save as a jpeg file, compression level 5, or medium, or for email or web depending on the choices given to you.

2. Go to Image>image size, and look at the measurements and pixel per inch count of your picture. Set the inches to 3x5 or thereabouts, it doesn't have to be exact, and pixels per inch to 96.

3. Close your file and say yes to save changes, or you can use File>Save as again.

Done! Make sure your file size is well under 100 kb, as it should be if you follow these instructions. You can always check the size of a file by right clicking on it and choosing Properties, where it will tell you exactly how big in kilobytes it is, or megabytes (a no no for the web, megabytes are way too big!)

The first time I tried to add a picture to my sig, it turned out as big as yours. But I did exactly what judiaci described above and got the perfect size.

Just right click on this picture and click save, then download it to Photobucket or whatever picture website you use, and put it in your signature.

Maybe we could help, as mypinkmermaid has done, by telling how to do this in different software programs. Those who need help could mention what programs they use, and those of us with them could provide step-by-step instructions.

I use SnapShot Express. I got it from Sam's Club for $8 quite a few years ago. It's the program I use all of the time for photo editing, because it's so easy to use.

Presuming your photo is already saved to your hard drive desktop:
1) Open the program.
2) Double-click on: "Get Pictures."
3) Double-click on: "My Computer."
4) Double-click on the image you want to edit (make sure this points to your desktop so that you can find the image).
5) Double-click "Trim and Position."
6) Double-click on "Size"
7) Experiment with sizes--whatever you see on the right-hand side is exactly how it will show up on the board. You can also use "Trim" to get rid of extras in the photo. Set the dpi relatively low; otherwise you will get a large photo.
8) Once the photo is the right size and dimensions, click the "Output" button that appears at the top right of your screen.
9) Click the floppy disk icon and "export image."
10) Switch the settings to JPEG, and name it a new/different name.

It's all set!
